Racing: Boulder joy for Durrant

Karnup trainers Adam Durrant and Grant Williams had four horses running in last Sunday’s Boulder Cup, so punters would not have been surprised both were in the winner’s circle after the race.

Durrant had Reverend Lovejoy and Double Barrel in the $110,000 feature event, while Battle Emblem and Brave Knight raced for Williams.

Ridden by Peter Hall, Reverend Lovejoy, which also won the 1760m event in 2009, took the lead early, managing to relegate the favourite Kincaple into second place.

By LoveADane from Bold Joy, the bay gelding, which on Monday was set for the Hannan’s Handicap over 1400m, has earnings of $629,125.

Durrant said while the eight-yearold has had some hoof problems, he was ‘‘very sound at this stage’’.

‘‘He’s pulled up fine, but we’ll monitor him and make a decision on Wednesday about (the Hannan’s),’’ he said.

If he races he will carry 55kg after being given a 2kg penalty for the cup win.

On Monday, The West Australian reported part-owner Kim Loxton as saying the horse was also being considered for Saturday’s $150,000 Kalgoorlie Cup (2300m).

Despite carrying top weight of 58kg for the event, Battle Emblem rushed home into third place.

Double Barrel with Peter Knuckey on board finished seventh and Troy Turner on Brave Knight finished second last.
