Rams coach takes heart from loss

Rockingham Rams' league side is unlikely to make this year's finals but will work to "salvage something" from the 2015 season, coach Peter Chidlow said after the team's disappointing loss to Mandurah Mustangs.

Chidlow said the team was remaining positive despite going down to Mustangs 14.5 (89) to 6.13 (49) at Anniversary Park at the weekend.

"We are still looking forward to the second half of the season," he said.

"We haven't achieved what we would have liked but we're not down and out."

Chidlow said missed opportunities at goals had cost the Rams against the Mustangs.

"We had the opportunity but didn't take them and instead kicked behinds," he said.

The Rams' dismal season of two wins and seven losses has been marred by a lack of players who have been out of the game because of various personal circumstances.

Chidlow said he hoped the side would soon have a full complement of players but colts players had stepped up to play on the league side in the meantime, including 17-year-old Daniel Hatch who was one of the Rams' best at the weekend, booting two goals.

"We're not in a situation to play finals this year but still want to salvage something out of the season and set good foundations for next year," Chidlow said.

The win moves the Mustangs up from holding the wooden spoon of the Peel Football League ladder to seventh.

The Rams sit in sixth place and will go up against the Baldivis Brumbies this weekend.

Chidlow encouraged the community to head down to Baldivis Oval to watch.
