The Rockingham Rams Netball Club capped off a brilliant maiden season in the best possible way, winning the grand final trophy.

Both the league and reserves teams fought hard through the Peel Netball League 2016 season and each earned a spot in their respective grand finals played on August 12.

The reserves squad held their heads high in a very tough match up against South Mandurah who ran away with the match in the end.

The following league game saw the Rams take on Pinjarra in an epic display of skills with the final scoreboard reading 43-40.

Rockingham captain Jodi Dunlop said it was one of the best games in the history of the PNL.

“Our girls showed experience and poise as they put together an awesome display of netball against the Tigers,” she said.

“Our players dug deep and held on to take a three-goal win and the premiership.

“In our first year together we did not expect to be playing in the grand final but we trained really hard and improved throughout the year.

“It was exciting to have such a close final game and the atmosphere and intensity was unreal.”

At the beginning of the year Dunlop approached social netball clubs throughout the area to find players and a squad of about 20 girls was formed.

“A few small groups within the side had played together before but it did take some time for the whole group to get adjusted,” she said.

“Our pre-season got off to a shaky to start but we grew together and really stepped it up.

“The win just shows how talented the girls all are.”
