Rams face their Demons

BRIAN OLIVERSound Telegraph

The Rockingham Rams will play Waroona in a preliminary final this weekend, with the winner to meet Pinjarra in the Peel Football League grand final.

After a slow start against Centrals at Anniversary Park on Sunday, the Rams turned it on in the second half, with Rocky Collins starring with six goals, to secure the 26-point win.

Rams coach Craig Otto said his team would have to produce a solid four-quarter effort this weekend against the Demons, who beat them convincingly 10 days ago in their qualifying final.

He said with his players getting through Sunday’s game relatively unscathed, despite a slight hamstring strain to forward Nick Groeneburg, there would be a near full-strength squad to pick from.

“Our depth is a lot stronger this week and that is credit to the guys that played the week before and missed out this week,” he said.

“We’ll probably change it up a bit and make it not as predictable as they presume, make a few positional changes and see if we can find them out a little bit.”

Otto praised Collins’ effort in front of goal along with Robert Honey and Michael Coy, who both chimed in with three goals each.

Eddie Dann, who booted four majors, and Theo Adams were again superb for the Rams against Centrals.

Otto said the team went back to basics in the second half, which he credited for the turnaround.

“We went to basic man-on-man footy,” he said.

“When we won the ball, we took off and when they won the ball we went to one-on-one football.

“It was an enjoyable win.”
