Rams set to tackle Demons

NIALL BOYLESound Telegraph

The wait is over for football fans when the Peel Football League returns this weekend.

Bitter rivals Rockingham and Waroona will battle it out in the clash of the first round on Saturday.

The Rams travel to Parnell Street to exact revenge on their narrow grand final loss to the Demons last year.

Rams coach Craig Otto said his charges were raring to go.

“We’re really looking forward to it, the boys are keen and we’ve had a good pre-season,” he said.

“We’ve got a couple of players who will be unavailable, but otherwise we’re fit and healthy.

“I’m looking forward to training this week, we’ve split the league and reserve sides up and we’ll be working on some structures ahead of the game.”

Waroona, meanwhile, warmed up for the encounter with a 40-point win over Harvey Bulls.

The match pitted Demons playing coach Dean Taylor and former Waroona premiership coach Paul Pannell, against one-another.

In the other stand-out fixture of the round, Baldivis travel to Bendigo Bank Stadium to face Mandurah on Saturday at 6pm.

Paul Lenzarini’s side has recruited strongly, with a number of key WAFL acquisitions, and will be looking to start their campaign on a high against the Mustangs.

South Mandurah host Pinjarra at Falcon Oval on Saturday at 6.30pm, while Centrals welcome Halls Head to Mundijong Oval for a 2.30pm bouncedown on Sunday.

Meanwhile, four well-known football identities were inducted to the PFL Hall of Fame last week.

Mundijong’s Clive Atwell, Mandurah’s Aaron Fitzpatrick, Waroona’s John Mason and Pinjarra’s Graeme ‘Chiefy’ Waters were all honoured for their commitment to local football.

Football fans will also be able to access the latest quarter-by-quarter scores this season via the PFL website.

Chairman Paul Campaner said the initiative would help keep supporters up-to-date with scores, as and when they occurred in realtime.

Scores will be available at www.apfl.sportingpulse.net.
