Ready for challenge

Rockingham Stingrays Swimming Club’s new head coach has his sights set on taking the club to the next level and says he is ready for the challenge.

After recently relocating to Golden Bay, Will Scott said he had embraced the new job, which he started two weeks ago.

With six years of swim coaching experience under his belt, Scott said he was approached by the club to bring his performance-based swimming brand to the team.

He said he wanted to build on the high-quality coaching the club already offered swimmers, from junior to the elite level.

The 26-year-old believed it was essential to have a long-term approach for the best chance of success.

“So much hard work has been done already and I want to build on that and be a part of the community so together we can aspire to do better,” he said.

“Each kid wants to do well and we need to acknowledge every one of them and work on their goals individually — that’s a big part of what we do.”

According to Scott, there were about 150 members in the Stingrays squad and it was hoped to increase numbers.

He said there was a good environment within the club and the structure they adhered to was conducive to success.

“It’s a journey of development for the kids and we focus on goalsetting and are very goal-orientated — we want to set them up to succeed,” he said.

Scott said the club aimed to develop high-level athletes through its training program to help them reach their full potential and possibly represent Australia.

“We have people from the age of six to 26 in the squad and we offer something for everyone,” he said.

“We’re encouraging people to come down for tryouts in the afternoon and see where they fit in.”
