Record-breaking round has Schoppe on top of the world

Sound Telegraph

Damian Schoppe has broken the course record at Rockingham Golf Club with an exceptional round of 66, surpassing his previous record of 68. Schoppe’s round equalled the long-term record of 66 held by the late Paul Freeborn, but his record was negated when the course underwent a major rebuild in 2008.

Schoppe’s round consisted of seven birdies with only one bogey and he said he couldn’t seem to miss any putts and was thrilled with his achievement.

Playing partners James Dwyer and Jarrad Foster agreed they had never seen a round like it and said Schoppe’s skill was “awesome”.

Club captain Graeme Rhodes congratulated Schoppe and commented that his record should stand for some considerable time.
