Redbacks in morale-boosting double victory

Sound Telegraph

Rockingham Redbacks recorded a morale-boosting double victory against Joondalup Lakers at Lark Hill on Saturday.

The day began with the Redbacks’ ladies promotion 1 team recording a 7-0 win.

After a few disappointing performances in recent weeks, everything clicked for the Redbacks and they began to play quality hockey.

It took the home side a while to settle, but when English import Beth Stainsby converted the first penalty corner with a drag flick the girls picked up their momentum.

The Redbacks continually pushed the ball forward and picked up the intensity of the game.

Jaymie Donaldson was a standout for Redbacks, finding the back of the net three times.

Other goals came from English imports Katrina Nicholson and Jo Ellis, while Stainsby was able to convert another penalty corner to take her tally to two.

Redbacks men’s promotion 1’s also had a convincing 4-0 win over the Lakers.

The first-half started quite slowly, with one goal from Nick Gerrard, but there was a much-improved display in the second half.

Redbacks added three goals through imports John Sterlini (2) and Dave Wilson.
