The community is invited to join emergency service volunteers and City of Rockingham officials tomorrow for a blessing of the roads ceremony ahead of the Easter long weekend.

Reverend Peter Brain will conduct the ceremony, to be held at the corner of Read Street and Rae Road.

Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the blessing of the roads campaign was part of promoting the road safety message and making sure people returned from holidays safely.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility,” he said.

“Given that everyone has a role to play, the Blessing of the Roads campaign is one of the ways the City is making a contribution to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads.”

Cr Sammels said the city was expected to busier than usual with people visiting the region over the four-day weekend and he urged people to allow plenty of time to reach their destination.

“No one wants to remember this Easter for tragic reasons so I urge you all to take road safety seriously, no matter how far you travel this weekend,” he said.

“Plan ahead, give yourself plenty of time to arrive at your destination, switch drivers if you’re on a long journey or ensure you take a rest break.”
