Rockingham centre welcomes public
Rockingham Autumn Centre is opening its doors to the public on the Queen’s Birthday public holiday next month to show off its new facilities.
At the community open day on Monday, October 1, the centre will also host a car boot sale.
Member Cathie Brown said the sale would raise money to buy more equipment.
‘‘We’ve got a group within the centre who work very hard to raise money for the centre,’’ she said.
‘‘We’ve done quite well over the past three years buying different things.
‘‘We’ve bought all new furniture for the alfresco area and we’ve also just about emptied the kitty, so we thought let’s show off our new alfresco area and use it as a fundraiser.’’
Ms Brown said the centre would charge a small fee for people to have a stall at the open day and hoped stall holders would also make money.
With money raised from the open day, Ms Brown said the centre planned to buy a new big-screen TV, which would be used in the centre’s dining room.
‘‘It gives us better utilisation of the facilities,’’ she said.
‘‘We can have anything from karaoke to film afternoons.’’
The open day will be held on from 9am to 1pm.
