Rockingham dresses up for party time

ELISIA SEEBERSound Telegraph

Rockingham venues were busy adding the final touches to their New Year’s Eve functions on Monday as they prepared to party into 2013.

R Bar owners Trevena Wilson and Siobhan Gavin were among the many preparing their venues for celebrations.

Ms Gavin said they would break in the new year dressed as someone famous.

“We are having a famous party so dress as anybody famous – Hollywood style with the red carpet and all,” she said.

“There will be two deejays, Joe Audio from Sydney, DJ Kizza, MC LD, a drag show by Val Nourished and caricature artist Vicky Royans.”

Ms Wilson said 2012 was another sold-out event.

“Last year (2011) we had an oriental theme and we had a big Wall of China out the front, lanterns all over the place, sumo wrestling and Jackie Chan playing on the big screen,” she said.

Ms Wilson said this New Year’s would be one to remember, with stand-out acts and performers.

“It is our chance to say thank you to all of the people who support us throughout the year,” she said.

“We are hoping it is loads and loads of fun. We want it to be a night people will talk about, with loads of photos.”

City of Rockingham offered the community an exciting New Year’s Eve celebration from 5pm to midnight on the city’s foreshore, with live entertainment and rides.

The event was to include headliners Pseudo Echo, Hit Factory and Festival of New Talent performers Ross Lowe, Madeline Hoole, Cristina Poad, Jasmine and Dylan Atkins.
