Emerging and accredited professional photographers from Rockingham submitted work in the 2016 Western Australian Professional Photography Awards last month and were rewarded for their efforts.

Kerry-Anne de Klerk, Trish Woodford, Sacha Sutherland and Kirk Norman won silver and silver distinction awards for photos submitted in a variety of categories including wedding, portrait and illustrative.

The awards were conducted by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography and the judging took place over the two days with each image submitted anonymously in both print and digital form.

Mrs de Klerk submitted photographs for the travel and wedding categories and was thrilled to receive silver awards for two of her images.

“The awards are very competitive and attract photographers with different abilities and levels of experience,” she said.

“It is very helpful to receive feedback from the judges and we all feel a little more confident in our abilities now that we are award-winning photographers.”

The awards were held at the North Metropolitan TAFE in Leederville on May 30 and 31 and photographers had the option to enter either commissioned or non-commissioned photos.

Both Mrs de Klerk and Mr Norman are now qualified for the AIPP National Awards after they both received more than one silver award.

All four photographers met through the Rockingham Photography Club when they were first beginning to hone their skills.

Mr Norman said he loved the endless possibilities that came with working behind the lens.

“Photography is an individual interpretation of imagination,” he said.

“We all see things differently and photos are a way to capture and create something that can last forever.”
