Rockingham police get in to the spirit of Movember

JACQUI O'LEARYSound Telegraph

As the end of Movember approaches, Rockingham police have embraced their mighty, manly moustaches in support of raising funds and awareness for mental and physical men’s health.

Starting with a cut-throat shave at the start of the month, Sergeant Andrew Maher, Constable Rob Huntington and three other officers cast their razors aside to the disappointment of their partners and began to grow their facial hair.

Movember is an annual charity initiative which aims to change the way men view their health and, according to Sgt Maher, being healthy and supporting a cause to help and cure problems which men face was important.

In his fourth year running, Sgt Maher was doing it for a laugh and he said his family were fairly used to the moustache by now.

Const. Huntington said his partner was not happy with his facial hair and could not wait for it to come off.

Alarming statistics about men’s health have been revealed through the campaign and every hour, more than four men die from potentially preventable conditions.

Sgt Maher said it was about increasing awareness and convincing men to go to the GP and get checked out.

With three days left, there is still time to donate money to the men at moteam.co/rockingham-pol-mo-s.
