Rockingham shoppers help sick girl

Arran MortonSound Telegraph

There was reason to smile at Rockingham Shopping Centre on Saturday as generous shoppers dug deep to raise more than $1500 for the Miracle for Madi fund.

Secret Harbour mum Natalie Molloy, whose 11-year-old daughter is battling an aggressive form of brain cancer, said the family were overwhelmed by community support, which had raised more than $50,000 to date.

Mrs Molloy said the family would return to Sydney on Monday, where it was hoped renowned neurosurgeon Charlie Teo will operate on Madi.

She said the family hoped to raise a further $70,000 to pay for the surgery.

"It's just been overwhelming the support we have had from people," she said.

"To think that people you don't know could be so generous is just amazing.

"Madi has got this stubbornness about her after fighting brain cancer from when she was 10 years old."

Dad Bryan said Madi was nervous about the surgery, but understood it was needed to help her feel better. He said the family would never give up the fight to save their daughter.

"We've just got to go for it," he said.

"We can't just sit back and do nothing. We will fight to the end."

Fundraiser Kristen Turner, whose six-year-old daughter Jasmine regularly dances with Madi, said visitors bought raffle tickets. Mrs Turner said children enjoyed a visit from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character Raphael.
