Rocky City on hot streak

Rockingham City hosted Melville City at Lark Hill Sportsplex last Saturday for a 3-0 thrashing and now head into the final two games of the season undefeated for the past eight games.

Rockingham started positively with chances to Alex Grayson and Roy Hissey in the opening minutes but the Melville keeper kept them from scoring.

Blake Sokolowski had a shot at the far post, which was saved again but managed to score when a run from Ryan Haslett down the left crossed in for Sokolowski to net and give Rocky a 1-0 lead in the first 10 minutes.

Rockingham took their foot of the peddle a bit and chances went missing when Hissey was again involved and Christian Hogge also had his shot saved.

The Rockingham defence did well to keep out any attack when a couple of patches of bad defending allowed a couple of shots but were well blocked by the Rocky goalkeeper Cyril Sharrock

Hogge was in with a 50/50 chance and the keeper then dragged the ball outside of the box and the resulting free kick by Ryan Kennedy found Sokolowski - at the back post unmarked - who steered his header into the net, giving Rockingham a 2-0 lead at half-time.

The second half started in the same manner, with Hogge lively again but it wasn't to be, with Melville stopping any attack Rockingham put forward. Paul Larvin was put through on goal from a slick Kennedy pass and with his first touch of the game, slotted his chance to make it 3-0 with 15 minutes to play.

Larvin was again through on goal but managed to miss his shot at goal, which would have made it two goals in three minutes.

The result stayed at 3-0 and the Rockingham defensive record of eight clean sheets in a row equalled 720 minutes of play without conceding a goal.

Rockingham have two games left in the year; Wanneroo away on September 19 and then Forrestfield at Lark Hill on September 26, knowing two wins will bring home the league trophy.

Rockingham City reserves drew 2-2 with Melville City reserves.

Rockingham City 18s walloped Melville City 18s 7-1 in a solid victory with two goals each from Mitch Morrin and Josh MacKinder along with goals from Jake Brown, Callum Ribbons and Aiman Kamarmohter.
