Secret Harbour wheels turn for a cause

Sound Telegraph

Secret Harbour residents Chris Wild and Carl Connor cycled over 200km at the weekend, all in the name of cancer research as they took part in the 2012 Ride to Conquer Cancer.

Wild and Connor joined hundreds of other riders from around WA to ride 102km from Perth to Pinjarra on Saturday, and then 118km from Pinjarra, through Rockingham and Fremantle and back to Perth.

Wild said it was a challenge but it was worthwhile for the cause.

‘‘We have both trained for the event over the last few months, but did find it find it hard work at times, especially riding into the wind on the coastal route on Sunday,’’ he said.

‘‘Thanks to some fundraising and some great friends, we raised $5000 for the West Australian Institute for Medical Research and the total money raised so far for the whole event was $4.7million.

‘‘It was all in all a very worthwhile and rewarding experience, which we hope to do again next year, hopefully with a larger team.’’
