Local unemployed people are taking part in an entrepreneur program offered by the City of Mandurah.

The City is one of the first local governments in Australia to offer a job-creation program specifically for people who are unemployed, address-ing joblessness figures in Mandurah.

Mayor Marina Vergone said the course was providing unemployed people with an opportunity to generate their own employment and work for themselves.

“We know that Mandurah’s unemployment rate is traditionally higher than State averages, and we are committed to finding solutions and offering ways to tackle this statistic for our community,” she said.

The two-part capacity-building program encourages participants to design their own job and become their own boss, and focuses on changing mindsets, learning lifelong skills and how to generate and develop business ideas.

The City also offers several other entrepreneur programs for different groups including Artpreneur 101, Mumpreneur 101 and a migrant women‘s program, which have all experienced great success.
