Sharks pip Bears at the post

Sound Telegraph

Rockingham Coastal Sharks kept their finals hopes alive after a hard-fought six-point win over the Willagee Bears at Larkhill on Saturday.

The 38-32 means the Bears are just one win ahead of the Sharks on the ladder.

The game was a try feast, with little defence showing through as each side swapped tries and the game moved from end to end.

At half-time scores were tied 16 all. Neither side dominated the game, but the Sharks kicked away in the end to secure the win.

The Sharks best players included Vincent Silulu, Kevin Brown, Danny Smith and Andrew Jeffery.

The goal kicking of Sharks’ John Weber proved a bonus and it was this accuracy that managed to keep the home team just ahead at the final siren.

With just five rounds remaining in the regular season, every game is a must-win for the Sharks if they want to play finals.

The Sharks face two of the top three sides in the final rounds and the Bears face all three, with percentage likely to decide the makeup of the final four.

This weekend the Sharks face third-placed South Perth, and will be hoping for a better showing after they were thrashed by 50 points in their previous encounter.
