Sharks stung by ladder leaders

DEAN STACEYSound Telegraph

The Rockingham Sharks have fallen two games behind top side North Beach after going down 32-16 to the Sea Eagles in Saturday’s WA Rugby League clash at Lark Hill.

The Sharks crossed for four tries, but failed to convert any as North Beach ran out comfortable winners.

The result leaves the Sea Eagles two games clear a the top of the table, ahead of Rockingham, Kalamunda and South Perth.

North Beach won the last encounter between the sides by a solitary point, but Rockingham were confident of squaring the ledger on their home turf.

Caleb Reedy, Alan Cowen, Daniel Smith and Josh Simm crossed once each for Rockingham.

But the Sea Eagles ran in six tries and converted four to prevail by 16 points.

The Sharks will be hopeful of making an immediate return to the winners’ list against the Goldfields Titans this weekend.

The trip to Kalgoorlie-Boulder is the longest in the competition and has been the scene of the Titans’ only two wins of the season.

Victory would keep Rockingham in line for a top-two finish to the home-and-away season with three games remaining.
