McLarty Hall in Shoalwater will come alive with the sound of music later this month, as community favourites the Silver Clefs lift their voices in song in tribute to some of the world's best musicals.

Conductor Irene Jones said the dozens-strong choir usually reserved the winter months for their biggest shows of the year, incorporating songs from musicals including Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid and The Pirate King. Jones said the choir had been practising non-stop for its flagship show on Saturday, September 6, learning most numbers from scratch.

She said the Silver Clefs were delighted to announce young members Kaylah, 12, and Savanna Gaskin-Hayter, 10, would join them in next Saturday's showcase.

"We try and do the showstoppers in August and September. We've drawn from lots of different shows in the past," she said.

"We usually do our shows on a Monday afternoon, but this one on Saturday night will be really special."

Member Bill Edwards said highlights of previous years' shows had included a special Olympic performance in 2000.
