Rockingham City consolidated sixth spot on the State League first division ladder following a 5-2 demolition of Canning City at the weekend.

Canning took a surprise early lead courtesy of centre-back Emlyn Whetnall, before Rockingham restored parity through Trevor Laurie.

A Roy Hissey strike handed the green and golds a 2-1 half-time lead, only for Richard Burton to equalise shortly after the resumption.

That seemed to spark the home side into action as Rockingham piled on three goals in 35 minutes.

Laurie got in on the act with his second, while Hissey sealed the points with a deft chip to put the result beyond doubt.

The win was Rockingham’s second from four matches and lifts them to sixth via goal-difference.

They will be favoured to claim three points again this weekend with a trip to struggling Forrestfield United.

United sit bottom of the 13-team competition and are yet to register a point from four matches of the new season.

The match kicks off at Forrestfield’s Hartfield Park on Saturday from 3pm.
