Smoke on the Water rises up to steal race

Sound Telegraph

Eight local Minnow and Flying Ant junior sailors represented The Cruising Yacht Club at the Musto Sail Fremantle Regatta on October 26 and 27.

The premier two-day ocean racing event, held in the challenging seas off Success Harbour, was a victory for Kieran Bucktin who reigned supreme in Smoke on the Water, winning nine from nine races to take out the Minnow series in convincing style.

Fellow TCYC sailor Luke Phillips in Maniac, sailed consistently to finish in 3rd place.

Other TCYC Minnow sailors also performed well, with Jack Joyner in Spellbound finishing in 5th place, narrowly ahead of Matthew Clements in Pokemon who placed 6th.

Brothers Harry Williams in Devil in Disguise and Rhys Williams in Bull At A Gate did well to place 7th and 8th, respectively, in their first ocean regatta.

The Flying Ant skiff racing was hotly contested by TCYC’s John Clements and DBYC’s Caelin Winchcombe on Predator and MBSC’s Holly Hunt and Freyja Carlberg on Phantom.
