Smooth dog just avoids nightmare on dark day

JAMES BROADHURSTSound Telegraph

It may have been Friday the 13th, but Oh So Smooth was able to defeat his opposition and achieve a dream result in the Get A Group Going Mixed Stake half at Greyhounds WA Mandurah last weekend.

Making his 405m debut against an ultra competitive field that included the likes of Buddy Be Cool, Egotistical, Mosquito Squad and Flying Annie, Oh So Smooth was unwanted by punters at $14.20 but belied the odds with an all-the-way triumph.

He jumped straight to the lead from box four and held that position throughout the race before withstanding a late challenge from Egotistical in the closing stages.

Oh So Smooth held on to score by a neck in 22.50 sec. to record his 16th career win.

In other racing, Perth Cup winning chaser Dyan Nalin made a dramatic return to racing when he saluted in the 530m Free To All at Cannington last Saturday.

After six weeks away from the track, the champion from Paul Stuart’s Nambeelup kennels showed he had lost none of his customary finishing power with a blistering come-from-behind effort.

Six lengths behind the leading Allen Gordy midway down the back straight, Dyna Nalin unleashed an irrepressible run to storm home to victory by over a length in 30.58.
