Senior citizens and the younger generation are bridging the divide between age and difference once a fortnight as part of a new program bringing smiles to the faces of all involved.

Cuddles Child Care Centre Bertram has formed a partnership with Home Help Local Mount Richon, in which seniors come to visit, play and read books with children at the centre.

Manager and program creator Chanele Duscher said inclusive practice was a key element in the operation of the centre. “We believe providing our children with an opportunity for intergenerational interactions can only benefit all involved,” she said.

“We are very excited to be integrating this into our centre and we have already witnessed some beautiful interactions and the benefits of the program.

“It’s early days as it is a new program, but the children are already benefiting from it.”

Home Help Local social program co-ordinator Mary Ann Ellis said it was a great program and the seniors enjoyed the visits.

“They talk all the way back home,” she said.
