Spate of break-ins leaves club struggling
Rockingham BMX Club president Craig Church says a string of break-ins at the club is hurting the sporting group financially and leaving it at risk of losing riders to other clubs.
Mr Church said the club, located on Ennis Avenue, had been broken into six times in the past three months.
He said on all occasions, the most recent on New Year’s Eve, the club’s food supplies were taken.
“It’s drinks, hamburger patties, sausages, bacon, bread rolls, lollies,” he said.
“Whatever stock we’ve got.
“Because we’re a not-for-profit organisation, the only money we earn is takings from the canteen and nominations each week.”
Mr Church said on average it cost the club around $1500 each time it had been broken into.
He said it meant the money was taken away from giving members improved facilities.
“We’re trying to do track upgrades, get more kids down here,” he said.
During one break-in the club’s alarm system was smashed, which cost them $2500 to replace.
Police are investigating the break-ins and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
