Special Gresham show a delight for students

ARRAN MORTONSound Telegraph

It was with a smile and a song that performer Matt Gresham took to the stage at Rockingham Senior High School last week, to the delight of hundreds of star-struck students.

The Rockingham musician, who wowed audiences nationwide on last year’s Channel 7 X Factor, treated young fans to a special concert, as part of the WAM Schools Alive program.

Music teacher in charge Matt Burke said students had looked forward to Gresham’s visit and many were given the opportunity to take part in a songwriting workshop with the singer after his performance.

“Some of our guitar, wind, vocal, brass and percussion students took part in a practical workshop where they were worked with Matt to come up with a new song, to feature on the singer’s YouTube channel,” he said.

Vocal student Sharlene Metcalfe was delighted to win a copy of Gresham’s latest album after she put her hand up to sing a line from one of the artist’s songs.

Fellow student Laura Metcher, 15, said she had been a Gresham fan since hearing her father Tim had sold the musician his first guitar, while working at a music shop in Rockingham.

“I think it was before I was born, but I have always liked that story,” she said.

Gresham said his appearance at the school was amazing.
