Steely Blues to entertain Rockingham

Hard-edged blues outfit Steely Blues, known for its relentless rhythms and searing steel licks, will perform at the West Coast Blues Club on Saturday.

The band is fronted by zany vocalist Jacqui-Anne Feutrill with Tim Halse on lap steel, Greg Lewis on bass and John Perrella on drums.

The members cut their teeth the hard way, playing in prisons.

WCBC president Nick Leach said people could expect an electric set.

"As a performer, Feutrill is never less than 100 per cent invested with an irresistible sense of self-abandon that most others can only dream about," Leach said.

"She kicks butt - plain and simple."

Leach said Halse was considered a pioneer on the lap steel guitar after developing a double-slide approach to playing.

"His YouTube videos have featured on the Steel Guitar Forum, drawing praise from slide and lap players around the world," Leach said.

Meanwhile, Greg Lewis on bass and John Perrella (drums) are a potent rhythm section.

Leach said they "wrote the book on blues construction".

The gig includes a jam session which allows blues enthusiasts to take to the stage.

"We're a friendly bunch, supportive and will make you feel very welcome," Leach said.

"We're open to new or experienced blues jammers."

Entry costs $5 members and $8 non members.
