Still no home-turf joy for Thunder

DEAN STACEYSound Telegraph

Peel Thunder are still searching for their first home win of the season after suffering a 44-point loss to Perth in Saturday’s WA Football League clash at Bendigo Bank Stadium.

The home side trailed at every change before lowering their colours 12.10 (82) to 15.26 (116).

The scoreline ultimately flattered Peel, who had Perth’s own inaccuracy to thank for giving the margin a semblance of respectability.

Despite having four more scoring shots in the opening term, the Demons headed into quarter-time ahead by just four points.

The one-sided affair continued in the second term, although Peel remained in touch at the main break with Perth proving their own worst enemy in front of goal.

The Demons rammed home their advantage in the third quarter en route to a fifth win of the season.

Thunder led the disposal count (357 to 352), but were second best in almost every other aspect.

They allowed Perth 34 more forward entries, nearly twice as many scoring shots (42-22) and trailed the hit-outs 50 to 21.

The numbers do not make happy reading for caretaker coach Mark Moody, who would have been confident of finally ending the club’s winless run in Mandurah.
