Stretch snaps back to Mandurah arts scene

Mandurah will be illuminated this weekend at the Stretch Arts Festival, which will provide free art, music, food and markets.

The two-day extravaganza is set to bring a feast of exciting experiences from renowned and upcoming Australian and international companies and artists.

Mandurah Mayor Marina Vergone said there were exciting opportunities for all ages and encouraged everyone to become involved.

“Stretch has grown from strength to strength over the years to become a prominent arts festival offering a number of events, performances, workshops, high-quality arts, cultural experiences and learning opportunities,” she said.

The City invites visitors and residents to reawaken their sense of wonder as nature and technology collide at the festival opening Alchemy: Lights on the Bay from 5pm on Friday.

Celebrating this year’s theme of “illumination —photography, film, music and projection” will culminate in an on-water installation around Administration Bay.

WA artistic director Roly Skender promised the opening sunset event would be a highlight.

The festival square will be open all weekend from 10am to 4pm with live music, circus workshops, delicious food and markets just a few of the things on offer.

Purple pencils will be dotted around the festival for a range of creative activities to satisfy everyone’s inner artist.

The Drift Installation is also back at the Keith Holmes Reserve, featuring sculptural works and an interactive project, in which the community is invited to participate.

The Common Threads Wearable Art Showcase will delight as a host of artists exhibit wearable work in a professional production on Saturday night.

Festivalgoers can also join the Vivid Art Collective for free workshops, including mixed media and opportunities for youngsters to make gifts for Mother’s Day.
