Port Kennedy students celebrated all things green by planting a variety of trees on Friday

St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School students joined team members from Bunnings Warehouse Port Kennedy to celebrate Planet Ark’s Schools Tree Day.

The day takes place every year in August and is a chance for students to learn about planting, do something positive for the environment, and reconnect with nature.

Bunnings manager Von Soriano said the team enjoyed getting out to schools to plant trees with the students.

“Schools Tree Day is always a great opportunity for our team members to roll up their sleeves and encourage kids to get into gardening and learn about their environment,” she said.

Students were taught about sustainability and gardening as they planted greenery for the school community to enjoy and maintain.

Planet Ark National Tree Day manager Debbie Agnew said the day was the largest nature care event in Australian schools and was not just about trees.

“Students taking part in the day learn so much more than just gardening,” she said.

“They learn everything from growing vegies to eat, to helping enhance their local environment and give back to the community in a sustainable way.”
