Students up to obstacle course challenge

Kids ran, climbed and jumped on Friday all in the name of teamwork.

Safety Bay Primary School students enjoyed taking part in a giant obstacle course on the oval in teams of five.

The event was organised by the school’s Parents and Citizens Association fundraising committee, who decided on a team event to ensure all students would want to participate and feel included.

Committee head Marleen Cleary said the aim was to do something different for the kids.

“We wanted them to challenge themselves, work together in teams to showcase that awesome Safety Bay Primary School team spirit, have fun and get them out of their comfort zones,” she said.

“We didn’t want any children left behind, they were all there to support their teammates and help them through all the obstacles and cross the finishing line as a team, which is why the last obstacle was ‘carry a team mate over the finish line’.”

The obstacle course included running through tyres, balancing on beams, crawling under netting and even sit-ups.

Funds raised went towards technology for the school.

Ms Cleary said the response from the kids was amazing.

“They were very excited about the challenge and had been busy planning their teams and creating their theme colours and costumes,” she said.
