Surfer tribute for mates
Hundreds of surfers and friends descended on Turtles Beach on Sunday in an emotional tribute to murdered friends Adam Coleman and Dean Lucas.
The Secret Harbour paddle-out came a month after thousands of surfers from around the world were involved in similar memorials for the Golden Bay surfers.
Mr Coleman and Mr Lucas were killed in a hold-up gone wrong, while on a surfing trip to Mexico in November.
Mr Lucas' parents Kevin and Wendy told the _Telegraph _ the ceremony was a "magnificent send off for a couple of fantastic guys who were living the dream of chasing the surf all over the world".
"Thankyou for all the love and support from all those in the water and on the beach," they said.
The paddle-out was organised by the late surfers' families to celebrate their lives in "surfers' tradition" and show love for "Adam and Dean together, as surfers and brothers at heart".The morning started by following in the footsteps of Mr Lucas' 2.8km walk through the dunes to one of his favourite surfing spots.
About 150 surfers took to the water with colourful floral wreaths about 8.30am and formed a giant circle in the ocean. About 100 others looked on from the beach, where bright towels and flowers were scattered across the sand.Mr Coleman and Mr Lucas, both 33, were driving through Mexico's volatile Sinaloa region when they went missing. Charred bodies found in a burnt-out campervan were later confirmed to be those of the WA surfers.
