Sydney just a dream walk away for Massu

ELISIA SEEBERSound Telegraph

Walking from Rockingham to Sydney may seem like a torturous journey for some but for Port Kennedy man Nicolas Massu it is a dream he is longing to pursue.

The 28-year-old has a love of walking that stemmed from a need to get out of the house one day in 2002 and went on to become a daily activity.

“My beagle dog, McFly, and I have now conquered Rockingham by walking the streets of every suburb,” he said.

A sufferer of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Mr Massu said walking helped him to clear his head and along the way he would pick up rubbish to help keep the streets clean.

He said he had challenged himself by walking the Bibbulmun track in 2010 and had now reached a point where he wanted to push himself even further.

“I want to walk from Rockingham to Sydney but I am still putting together the funds because the equipment I need is expensive,” he said.

“I was inspired by Canadian Deanna Sorensen who walked from Perth to Sydney in 180 days covering just less than 5000km — I read her book Going the Distance, A Walk Across Australia.”

As a member of Learning Attention Disorder Society of WA, Mr Massu said his goal was to raise money for the not-for-profit organisation and awareness of the disorder while walking the distance to Sydney.

“LADS have helped me a lot, I go to a support group there,” he said.

Mr Massu said he hoped someone would sponsor his walk to Sydney so he could in turn help support LADS.

He said he would follow his goal no matter what and was planning to walk to Sydney next year.

“It is something to look forward to and something to fight for,” he said.
