Former Kwinana Theatre performer Kim Taylor is helping to give birth this September — to a new play.

He’s appearing the world premiere of Snow and Ash at the Old Mill Theatre, as part of its short play season.

Written by Noel O’Neill and directed by Valerie Dragojevic, it follows two clowns from a travelling circus who are left behind and trying to catch up.

But their country has been taken over by a dictator who has ordered all gypsies be killed.

Taylor plays angry clown Ash, in contrast to the clown Snow, who hasn’t spoken in years.

“Snow believes he has all the answers, much to Ash’s chagrin,” Taylor said.

“As Snow doesn’t speak, one of my many challenges is just learning the lines.

“I have also never worked with the other actors before so forming a working relationship with them is another factor in creating a level of trust within the group.”

Acting since the early 1980s, when he first appeared in an army production of Aladdin to raise funds for a children’s hospital, Taylor has performed extensively with the Old Mill, Kwinana, Harbour, Melville and KADS Theatres over the years.

“Snow and Ash appealed to me because I have great admiration for Noel O’Neill’s writing and it’s always a pleasure to work with him and director Valerie Dragojevic,” Taylor said.
