Tucker is set for milestone

MATILDA PRICESound Telegraph

Rockingham Flames captain Kaye Tucker is excited about getting out on the court this weekend for two reasons.

Not only does she get to play the game she loves, but on Saturday, against the Perth Redbacks, she will play her 300th game in the Women’s State Basketball League.

The 29-year-old said she was delighted to hit the milestone.

“It’s pretty exciting, not many people have done it, but to play the majority with one club is great and to captain it is exciting,” she said.

“Our vice-captain Casey Ware played her 200th last season and I’ve played most of my career with her, but we’ve got a really good squad so many are just playing their second or third season and that’s it.”

Tucker has been playing basketball since she was six and said her love for the game spawned from her upbringing. “I have a brother who also played, so we both started to play,” she said.

“I’m from a sporty family and we played a lot of sports, so basketball was just one of them.

“I love the competitiveness and the challenge of what it brings that’s different each day.”

Despite Kaye’s 300th game being played at Belmont, the milestone will be acknowledged when the team plays Lakeside Lightning in Rockingham on Sunday.
