Firefighters from Rockingham Fire Station attended two major car accidents in the city on Monday night.

A man was rushed to Rockingham hospital under priority conditions after a two-car crash in Baldivis about 7.20pm.

It is understood the man had to be freed from his car after the collision on Karnup Road near the Kwinana Freeway and emergency crews were at the scene for about 45 minutes.

Another man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The second incident involved a car colliding with a support pillar under the Safety Bay Road overpass in Waikiki.

A 63-year-old man was driving a Toyota Avalon south along Ennis Avenue when it crossed the median strip and crashed into the pillar.

He was trapped in the vehicle and firefighters from Rockingham and Hope Valley cut him free in what was described by a Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman as a challenging extraction.

Crews were in attendance for about one hour and the RAC helicopter airlifted the man to Royal Perth Hospital.
