Staff at The Links Kennedy Bay golf course are devastated by the damage to the 15th green caused by vandals overnight.

Greenkeeper Gordon Heron said it took him about three hours to repair the damage to the green this morning, which was “hacked” at by golf clubs, the 15th flag pole and potentially bunker rakes.

“50 per cent of golf is played on the green,” he said.

“It will take about two months to get it back to where it was.

“They’ve broken the roots, which will dry out the tuff of the grass.”

Mr Heron said it was “disappointing” blow to the golf course’s reputation and the Port Kennedy community.

He said his team worked hard to keep the course at a high standard for the golfers and it was “soul destroying” to see the greens treated in such a manner.

“I can’t believe the amount of damage this course has coped over the years,” Mr Heron said.

“They don’t realise how long this special grass takes to repair,” Mr Heron said.

The incident was reported to Rockingham police.
