Vandals ruin work

GABRIELLE JEFFERYSound Telegraph

Kwinana Home Support Services celebrated the addition of vibrant new murals on their building with artists and volunteers on Monday.

But the event was marred due to a spate of graffiti attacks on the murals at the weekend, with only one mural left untouched.

Volunteer coordinator Ruth White said the graffiti had saddened the artists, including 16-year-old Jonathon Desmond.

‘‘We worked hard on this — it’s our art that has been ruined,’’ Jonathon said.

The vandals also graffitied the nearby St Vincent De Paul buildings.

St Vincent’s volunteer Shirley Thomas said it was the fourth time the building had been targeted.

‘‘We don’t understand why we would be targeted,’’ she said.

‘‘We help the community — even those who do this kind of damage.’’

She said Kwinana Town Council had helped clean up graffiti in the past.

‘‘They really have been wonderful,’’ she said.

The graffiti has been reported to police.
