Volunteer land carers are ‘jolly good vollies’

ARRAN MORTONSound Telegraph

It was all hands on deck on Sunday as members of the Homestead Ridge Progress Association joined forces with City of Kwinana for a special planting day.

More than 40 of the association’s “famous vollies” planted various trees and plants at Wellard Park as part of the fight against “dieback”.

HRPA conservation committee chairman Sonny Rolfe said the area had lost many trees and plants due to development in the area and volunteers hoped to re-establish flora.

“The conservation committee has been working with the Kwinana council and (Department of Environment and Conservation) with great success,” he said.

“The planting day last Sunday took three-and-a-half hours, with great effort from our famous ‘vollies’ and a local band of Scouts who we were very lucky to have.

“A thousand plants now have their feet in the soil of Wellard.”
