World record broken as veteran blitzes parkrun field

Rockingham athlete Trevor Scott has been taking the parkrun world by storm, recording the fastest age-graded men’s time in the world two weeks in a row.

Scott recorded a time of 17min. 17sec. in the 5000m Rockingham parkrun event on Saturday, November 12 and then 16:59 at the Canning River parkrun on Saturday, November 19.

Parkrun organises free, weekly timed runs all over the world with all times recorded on parkrun. com.au.

More than 20,000 events are held in Australia each week and cater to more than 200,000 runners.

Scott overcame a hamstring injury earlier this year and took part in the 2016 World Masters Athletics Championships in Perth in October.

He won a gold and silver medal in the 8000m event and fin-ishedthe 5000m with a time of 17:13.
