Writing group marks milestone

United Rockingham authors are excited to celebrate the first birthday of its writing group at the Rockingham Arts Centre on Friday night.

The Rockingham Writers Centre formed last year to help those living in the region with a passion for the written word to network and solve problems unique to writing.

Founding member and published author Mike Murphy said the centre offered a space where he could talk shop with like-minded people.

“I’ve been writing stories since the 1960s,” he said.

“The group has helped me to learn about marketing, how to sell my works and how to get people to read them.”

Fellow member and multi-genre author Milton Blanch said the group offered the opportunity to discuss ideas such as the character development difference between short novels and children’s books.

“Its an opportunity to meet fellow writers, provides companionship and (to) bounce ideas off each other,” he said.

On Friday, the group will celebrate its first birthday at the Rockingham Arts Centre at 7pm.

Non-members are encouraged to join in the fun and network with members and people in the industry.
