Yates draws on rock soul of Lennox
Thornlie-based singer Jaye Yates is one sister who will be doing it for herself this weekend, as she becomes rock legend Annie Lennox for a special one-off performance.
Part of a trio of British rock impersonators to take to the stage at The Chase in Baldivis, Yates will don the Scottish singer’s signature 1980s power suit and deliver a selection of classic tunes from the Eurythmics’ front woman, including Who’s that Girl, Would I Lie to You and Sweet Dreams.
Yates said guests could expect a rip-roaring evening of fabulous British rock, as fellow impersonators Wayne Stanley and Andrew Simpson personified Welsh rocker Tom Jones and English singer-songwriter Boy George.
“Eurythmics came out with I Only Want To Be With You when I was in my teens, so I was there through all the hits — it was a fantastic time,” she said.
“Annie Lennox was very unique — she was a beautiful lady who always respectable and challenged traditional gender roles.
“It’s an honour to be able to perform her songs and keep some of that Eurythmics magic alive.”
Yates said she, Stanley and Simpson had been performing together for about 15 years and had taken their impersonation acts across the country and overseas.
She said the trio always had a laugh, and loved getting audiences up and dancing.
“I work for a funeral director during the day, which can be challenging, but both my jobs are very, very unique and we look forward to entertaining guests at The Chase,” she said.
Venue manager Alan Quinn said he looked forward to welcoming the impersonators to The Chase.
Tribute Night kicks off at 8.30pm on Saturday.
