Mittens and hairnets were at the ready at Rockingham Senior High School education support centre as students baked cupcakes for a cause.

The Year 8 home economics class put on their chef hats on Tuesday, August 20, as part of the Australian Red Cross Big Cake Bake.

Home economics teacher Juliet Stratton said all staff and students observed the highest standards of kitchen hygiene, making sure hands were washed, and food handling gloves and hairnets were worn.

“It was quite a sight,” she said.

“The whole class worked beautifully, producing 60 perfectly prepared and baked goodies.

“Two types of muffin were baked, a choc chip muffin and a triple choc muffin.”

Miss Stratton said the triple choc muffins were the first to sell out, which was hardly a surprise.

“After all, who can resist freshly baked chocolate muffins with choc chips and white choc chips,” she said.

With extra muffins provided from teachers and donations from staff and students, the education support students raised $80 for the Australian Red Cross.
