Young talent should enter Rockingham festival
Young musicians are being urged to enter this year's City of Rockingham Festival of New Talent.
Street Hassle Events co-ordinator Michelle Mrzyglocki said the growing festival had unearthed a lot of local talent.
She expected the third annual event to be bigger and better.
"One of the biggest successes is a number of the FoNT team are working professionally and they attributed the festival experience as helpful getting them to that point," she said.
"That's the goal.
"It's not about the competition, it's an opportunity for kids to meet each other, develop their craft and gain performance experience."
Prize money is up for grabs for first, second and third placegetters in the junior and senior divisions.
But Mrzyglocki said the real reward was the exposure, experience and doors which opened to entrants.
"(Street Hassle Events) runs the New Year's Eve event and we are proud we can offer them a paid performance opportunity," she said.
"We watch all performers and know a lot of people booking acts.
"FoNT is a helping hand for these kids."
This year, the contest has original and cover sections - the first time the genres have been separated. "That allows for kids that are songwriters, but at the same time those that are performing covers are still included," Mrzyglocki said.
"There's room for everyone in FoNT."
She urged solo singers, musicians and bands to enter, with previous performers also welcomed back.
"Be seen, show us what you do," she said.
"And if you've entered before, come back and show us how much you have grown.
"Give it a go. It's a great opportunity."
FoNT includes four heats in October.
