The Little Athletics WA Winter Cross Country State Championships was held last month and Kwinana sent its largest team in four years to compete.

The cross-country races are held over the winter season with alternating run and walk races held each week at different locations.

Competitors must compete in at least four events to qualify for the championships.

Kwinana Little Athletics Club sent 24 athletes with the State road walk held on August 6 and the cross-country run on August 13.

Competitor Harrison Maude received a bronze medal in the 1500m road walk under-11 category while Xavier Allen received a bronze medal in the 1500m cross country run under-7 division.

Coaches Michael Cuffe and Terry Hargreaves spent the season preparing the athletes, training twice a week in rain, hail or shine.

Kwinana Little Athletics Club is holding a registration day for the summer season on September 10 at the Wellard Pavilion from 9am-noon.
