Zero tolerance for P-plate alcohol
Police want young drivers to hear this message loud and clear — P-plate drivers cannot have any alcohol in their system while driving.
The reminder comes after a 17-year-old P-plate driver allegedly drove into the front bedroom of a house in Bertram at 7.08pm on March 15.
According to police, the driver lost control of the Holden Rodeo ute he was driving at a roundabout on Maynard Way, and the vehicle crashed into the house.
The male occupant of the home, which was not insured, was watching television on his bed and was showered with debris, but only received minor scratches on his face.
The driver and his passenger were unharmed.
Herecorded a positive preliminary breath test at the scene and was taken to the Kwinana police station where he was given a second test.
No charges have been laid and police are investigating.
Sgt Matthew Philips said it was a big concern that some probationary drivers were not heeding drinkdriving laws.
‘‘It’s one of the major issues police are targeting — drink driving, speed and inattention, which all lead to vehicle crashes,’’ he said.
Police are calling for any witnesses to the crash.
Anyone saw a white Holden Rodeo ute being driven before the incident should contact police on 131 444.
