$10k homelessness boost

A Rockingham charity providing much-needed services to the region’s homeless and vulnerable residents has been handed a $10,000 grant.

Rockingham Kwinana Chamber of Commerce is preparing to host the Long Table Lunch next month, with the event a firm fixture in the city’s social calendar.

However, the chamber also looks to provide funding for a charity as part of the money made from the event.

Christians Ready Equipped and Willing will be the bene-factors this year, with chamber president Basil Paparone saying the group was a worthy cause to support.

“We look to help local charities and not-for-profit organisations and we have helped the likes of SOUL Soup Patrol and the Salvation Army in the past,” he said. “We are delighted to be able to help The C.R.E.W this year.”

The C.R.E.W founder Julie-Anne Moyle thanked the chamber for their support and said the money would be put towards a financial counselling service.

“We started three years ago and are hopefully moving to a new building by the end of April,” she said. “The financial counselling program is something that we are putting back into the community. It is a free service that people can access.”

“A big thank you to the chamber for choosing us and for your support.”

The Long Table Lunch will be at the Rockingham foreshore on Saturday, March 17.
