It was a winning weekend for the Rockingham Rams and the Baldivis Football Club last Saturday, with both sides recording impressive victories over Mandurah and Waroona respectively in the Peel Football League.

With the premiership-winning team of 1988 watching on at Anniversary Park, Rockingham 13.16 (94) were too strong for the Mustangs 7.9 (51) while Baldivis 13.18 (96) thumped the Demons 4.8 (32) at Parnell Street.

Through stand-out performances from Rocky Collins, Tim Taylor and ruckman Andrew Stokes, the Rams led at every break to notch their first win of the season.

Coach Scott Franklin praised his side for getting off to a great start.

“Our contested footy and tackling pressure was just fantastic so that set up us up,” he said.

“We knew last week it was our contested footy and our pressure that dropped off so this week we were able to maintain that for four quarters.

“Each quarter we got a couple of goals on them and ran out reasonably comfortable winners.”

The Brumbies, meanwhile, simply had too much class for last year’s beaten grand finalists Waroona as they easily accounted for the Demons by 64 points.

Baldivis coach Craig Hamersley said while it was a game that was hard to take much from, it was pleasing to come away with the points ahead of a huge clash with premiers Pinjarra this weekend.

“Eddy Dann was pretty big us again, he kicked five goals,” Hamersley said.

“Zac Quigg was handy; we swung him forward in the second half and he got on the end of three.

“Ben Waddington and Sam Eccless were also really good as well.”

Baldivis’ clash with Pinjarra this Saturday is at Baldivis Oval, while Rockingham will travel to Falcon Oval to face South Mandurah.

Bouncedown for both games is at 2.30pm.
