Baldivis bus shelter to benefit local public transport users

One of the busiest bus stops in Baldivis will soon get a shelter, which is great news for Affinity Village resident and regular public transport user Carol Van de Weerd.

Ms Van de Weerd asked Baldivis MLA Reece Whitby if a shelter could be installed to protect passengers from the elements, saying it would be a godsend for the aged, young children and their mums.

“Carol’s idea made a lot of sense given this stop is used by so many people,” Mr Whitby said.

“The bus stop on Safety Bay Road near Settlers Avenue, opposite Stockland Shopping Centre, is used by hundreds of village residents, school students and commuters who catch the bus to Warnbro train station.”

Ms Van de Weerd wrote to the Baldivis MLA explaining she had been asked by several people in the Affinity Retirement Village if he could “put a request in” for a bus shelter outside the village, where there is currently a seat but no shelter.

The City of Rockingham agreed it was a good idea and said a shelter would be built around June.

The City has also agreed to install other shelters on Safety Bay Road, Smirk Road and Nairn Drive in Baldivis, and on Willmott Drive in Waikiki.
