With work on the first stage of the Rockingham Foreshore Redevelopment now over, business owners are calling on the public to return to the area to not only enjoy the new facilities but to support those who did it tough during construction.

The Sound Telegraph reported at various stages during the redevelopment works on business that were struggling because of the downturn in foot traffic and parking restrictions, with some claiming to have lost up to $20,000 a month and having to lay off staff during the peak of the works.

Rockingham Kwinana Chamber of Commerce chief executive Tony Solin said the transformation of the area would be a big draw for people and encouraged residents to include a meal or drink in their visit. “Now that the foreshore precinct project has been completed it will be a well-utilised area for local residents and visitors,” he said.

“The entire area has been re-activated and will give the foreshore businesses a well-deserved boost in the coming summer season.

“I would encourage all local residents to consider coming down for a meal or snack, and discover a brand-new, colourful entertainment and hospitality precinct.”

Chandlers Kitchen owner Damon Chandler said the redevelopment provided a fresh location for Rockingham residents and tourists alike with sand, parks, sunshine and venues for all tastes.
